Marlin
The two subspecies of marlin accessible in Old No. 7 waters are Blue and White Marlin. A rare catch off South Florida, marlin are much more common in the waters of the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic and Bermuda. Blue marlin average 200lbs. and have been caught over 1000lbs. Their cousins the White Marlin are typically slightly larger than a sailfish and do not get much larger. Although some are caught in these waters year round, typically May-July are the prime times to target marlin by mostly trolling lures and dead baits. Trolling teasers and dredges with no hook are an exciting way to bring the big fish up the corner of the boat to “bait and switch” with a “pitch bait” which is extremely exciting. All marlin are caught and released unless a rare tournament requires one to be killed for weigh in.

Dangerous Marlin
This was an ill-advised attempt to bring a Blue Marlin on board. Luckily nobody was hurt, including the fish.
